Killing Eve: Season 1 (2018)

Plot: Eve, a smart but bored MI5 officer is deskbound itching for a chance to go out on the field. Villanelle is an extremely talented assassin who goes head to head with Eve. Each of them is obsessed with the other.

Created By: Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Starring: Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, Fiona Shaw, Kim Bodnia, Owen McDonnell, David Haig

Jodie Comer is sensational as the ruthless Villanelle. She adds a playful trait to the character who lives to kill people. She makes her loveable, you want to hate her but you can’t. Every time she’s on screen she steals the show, she’s magnificent. Comer brings the character to life in a fun and enthusiastic way. She’s a killer you won’t have seen before.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is what the world needs right now. Whether she’s acting or behind the scenes. In a man’s world, she brings this thriller to our screens and blows everyone away. Everyone is talking about this show. You can’t get away from it. It’s a females dream. If you haven’t heard of Killing Eve then you must be living under a rock. It’s absolutely delightful. I think Waller-Bridge could potentially be the best thing that happened to TV in 2018 and I hope she has inspired more females in the industry to follow in her shoes.

Eve and Villanelle are two very different people but their worlds collide dramatically. Eve is a bored married woman with a darkness that lurks just underneath the surface that’s screaming to expose itself. We see glimpses of her darkness throughout the eight-episode run. Villanelle loves her job and all the perks that come with it. There’s also a desire for something that overwhelms her and trying to figure that out will take the entire season to unwrap. They’re drawn together and Eve may be the only person in the world to break down Villanelle’s walls. But will Villanelle crack and reveal her vulnerable side? Does she even have a vulnerable side?

Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh)

Eve believes that Villanelle is responsible for multiple unexplained killings across several countries. When Villanelle discovers Eve is onto her, she plays with her. This game they’re both playing blurs the lines of professionalism and becomes a flirtatious chase to get to each other.

It’s a show that’s undefinable. Which category does it belong to? It’s your next obsession. I have no idea where this show is going but it’s the best thing to come out of 2018 so I don’t care. I just need more of it. It’s a TV experience like no other. The best TV show you’ll watch all year!

Even though… hang on, let me just check… yep, still a man, I loved this show. Very woman-centric I agree, with powerful and assertive female leads, but the pacing is perfect, the comic asides just brilliant, and Comer is just spectacularly creepy/lovable as the psycho killer.
