Wow wow wow. 10 episodes of season eight have passed, a lot faster than I’d have liked, but what a season it has been, so far. This season has seen the most change. Characters are changing positions in the firm all over the place and with the departure of Rachel and Mike and then a new character being introduced, all this season has consisted of is change.
By far, season eight has been my favourite season. I didn’t like Mike or Rachel so now that they’ve gone I enjoy it so much more. New character Samantha Wheeler played by Katherine Heigl (who I’ve always been a fan of since her Greys Anatomy days) was a welcome addition. The major reason why she’s so likeable is she brings strength to the show and to the representation of women on TV. She is a strong character who can stand her own and I can’t help but watch in awe. The only strong female character this show has had is Donna who is completely amazing but introducing another one has given the show a new dynamic and I absolutely love it. These two got to team up in one of the episodes and it was great, I hope to see more of that in future episodes.
What has been different is the shift of screen time for some characters. We’re seeing a lot more of Louis and his personal life with Sheila which is great to watch. Then there’s the battle between Samantha and Alex on who is going to get their name on the wall next and they take up a lot of the drama this season. However, Harvey isn’t seen much nor has much input in anything anymore. I kind of missed him this season, I didn’t feel he was seen much at all or had a purpose to any of the stories. He was just sort of in the background. I miss his scenes with Donna, I hope he’s in the second half of the season more.
The mid-season finale was my favourite episode of the show ever, including past seasons. What an episode. I won’t go into detail because I don’t want to spoil anything but the stakes are high and the drama intense. The battle for the next name partner culminates. There’s also some twists right at the end, one surprising and quite shocking because you don’t see it coming and the other heart-warming.
Suits has adapted to big changes perfectly and hasn’t forced anything. The changes have all felt very natural and it’s just as good as ever, if not better. I can’t wait for the second half of this season because if it’s going to stay at this level of goodness then we’re going to get some very entertaining episodes.
