I, Tonya (2017)

Plot: Based on the shocking true story, Tonya Harding rises to fame through her figure skating only to be disgraced when her husband tries to eliminate her rival.

Director: Craig Gillespie

Starring: Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan, Allison Janney, Caitlin Carver, Paul Walter Hauser, Mckenna Grace.

It’s a dark yet comic tale of a gripping true story. I loved the way the film was told. A lot of biopics have a really dark and serious tone but this film broke the fourth wall, a lot. It was great juxtaposition and it made it stand out from any other biopic.

Margot Robbie was terrific. I’ve never seen her in anything like it and she pulled it off flawlessly. She’s a fantastic actress and I still can’t believe I used to watch her in Neighbours, I never thought I’d see her in huge Hollywood films.

There have been a lot of sporting films that have come out recently. The ones I have seen are Borg McEnroe and Battle Of The Sexes and I have to say I, Tonya is the best out of all of them. I thought Battle Of The Sexes was extraordinary and it was but I, Tonya is the grittiest. It was just told honestly and it’s admirable. The film was structured really well. When I saw the running time of just under two hours, I thought it was going to drag but there was so much depth to the story and so much to be told that it didn’t drag at all. In fact, it felt fast-paced. It was enjoyable and captivating.

The film tries its best to make you feel involved and you do. You start to form your own opinions about these real people. A lot of the actors and actresses look like the real-life people. It was great fun to watch.
