The film gets off to a really slow start but after the first 45 minutes or so, it gets better and the action and tension builds into something exciting. The last half an hour of the film is on the edge of your seat stuff.
The main character, played by Ansel Elgort, is really likeable. There is a scene at the end of the movie that will just break your heart because something bad happens to him and you really don’t want it to happen. I was really rooting for him throughout the movie. I willed him to get a happy ending. The character has had a really bad life so you just want him to finally be happy and free of this dodgy lifestyle that he is leading.
I really liked Elgort in an action role. Obviously, he was in the Divergent Series but he wasn’t a strong fighting character and in The Fault in our Stars, he wasn’t an action hero either so this is the first time I’ve seen him play a character of this ability and I thought he really suited it. I’d love to see him in another role similar to this one.
I loved the way the film was shot and styled. There were a lot of long takes where the camera followed the action with fast movements and it felt fresh and modern. A lot of the camera shots felt cool. The film feels very original which is fantastic because the world is full of remakes and sequels.
An exciting and thrilling film!
