It’s a conspiracy thriller that shines in all its aspects. The season was released last Friday, all episodes were made available straight away. I binged watched the whole season in that Friday, I couldn’t break away from it. That’s how good this show is. It’s like when you read a book and you can’t put it down.
Tim Roth’s character and his wife and two children move from England to Canada, to settle down to a new quiet life. The show is British made but set in Canada. The landscapes were beautiful. Their house was surrounded by mountains and outside the front door was a beautiful river. I really need to visit Canada because this show made it look absolutely stunning and peaceful.
Anyway, back to the show. The performances are nothing short of outstanding. Even the actors who played the children and younger characters, that have less experience, were extraordinary to watch. That’s what makes this show so great, I couldn’t pick out a bad performance from the main cast. They were all perfect.
It’s definitely a new kind of show, it’s different from all the shows that are airing now. It’s a thriller but has a western feel to it. It’s a fantastic story that has a lot of twists and turns, especially towards the backend of the season.
The mum was really inspiring. The show focuses on this family whose world is turned upside down because criminals who want to kill the father of this family accidentally kill the son. He’s only five years old and he was so cute. He didn’t deserve to die. The mum really changes after the loss of her little boy and she stands up for herself and her daughter and doesn’t care. She charges around the town with a shot gun and will shoot anyone who gets in her way.
Watching the remaining family members deal with this loss was a truthful portrayal. They struggled and they changed and they grieved in their own ways. Some scenes involving their grieving was really hard to watch because it was so sad. It’s easy to fall in love with these characters straight away. You quickly become invested in their story.
I really hope they do a second season. This one was incredible, one of the best TV shows I’ve seen and it’s probably going to be my favourite to come out of 2017. Season one ended on a cliffhanger, everything was tied up so you get lots of closure but then there’s one last shocking moment right at the end that leaves you wanting more. If there is another season it would be interesting to see what they fill the 10 episodes with, considering there isn’t much to tie up now.
A brilliant thriller, a must-see!
