A suspenseful film with one hell of a twist. Even though it starts off slow, I was too intrigued to turn it off. There is little character back story so it’s hard to care for these characters. There are so many films that are set in space so it’s hard not to compare it to films like Gravity, The Martian etc.
What’s exciting about this film is you don’t know who’s going to survive. Once they get into the story, the crew start dropping like flies. I was sad that Ryan Reynolds dies pretty early on. It was a cool death and because there was no gravity, the blood looked really cool.
The film isn’t really unique. Maybe it’s because there are so many science fiction films these days that they’re beginning to feel a little stale. I would definitely recommend this film but I think that is because of the ending. I kind of guessed something was going to happen so it is a little predictable. To get rid of the deadly life-form that is killing all their crew members, Gyllenhaal’s character decides to fly it deeper into space, forfeiting his own life too. Ferguson’s character decides to try and fly back down to Earth.
However, something goes drastically wrong and it’s Gyllenhaal that makes it to Earth and Ferguson is flying uncontrollably, deeper into space. The bad think about Gyllenhaal making it to Earth is that he has the deadly life-form in his pod. This life-form is dangerous because it could wipe out the entire human race. Earth is screwed.
If this film has a sequel then it will probably focus on what happens to humanity with this life-form on Earth. It would make quite an exciting sequel. I’d probably watch it. I will also say that I loved the credits song that they played. It was Spirit in the Sky and I love that song. I thought it was a nice ending to the film.
An enjoyable and intense sci-fi film!
