Wow, wow, wow! My favourite TV show finally came back and it was totally worth the two years wait for it. At the core of this show, is a beautiful heart. Once again, the show explores love, relationships and acceptance. It teaches you to love yourself no matter who you are or where you come from. In this universe, being transgender or gay or straight really doesn’t matter. Everyone is accepted and it’s beautiful. It’s all about PRIDE. The montages of pride flags and parades around the world at the beginning of each episode are really empowering. I think society really needs this show because it embraces differences and shows that everyone is connected in one way or another and that the world would be a nicer place if we all just accepted each other.
Character development is achieved with every character in this show and that is really important. There are a lot of characters in this but they all have their own stuff going on and I think having a story for each of them and the main story, allows the audience to connect with at least one of them. You will be able to relate to at least someone.
In episode 6 we get to see Lito come out in front of the whole world and it was such a precious moment. It felt like a massive f*** you to anyone who dislikes gay people because he did it in front of thousands and brought his boyfriend on stage to kiss him, proudly. It was amazing. You can see that the character is so much happier now everyone knows about his sexuality. He can finally be himself.
We also see the conflict of Nomi and her parents as they don’t accept her gender change. There’s a really sweet moment in episode 8 when Nomi attends her sister’s wedding. Her father calls her his daughter and it’s the first time he’s ever called her that and it was actually quite heartbreaking. You can see it means so much to her and I think it shows a development in their relationship. Hopefully, that means he’s starting to accept his daughter. I’m also super happy that she and her girlfriend become engaged. It’s such a sweet moment because they both have rings as they both planned to do it. It was beautiful and I welled up a little bit.
Other developments I am happy to see are Wolfgang and Kala finally agreeing to be together. It’s only taken them 2 seasons to finally get their acts together. They admit their love to each other and decide to go live in Paris. I’m happy for them because it’s about time they got together and choose happiness over what they think the right thing to do is.
Riley changes a lot in this season because she’s no longer the one that needs saving. She fights and goes out of her way to protect the others and find out the truth. She puts herself in danger and begins to fight back. It was great to see this side of her. She is not a weak character. In fact, none of these characters are weak. They’re all strong and independent in their own ways.
Will, for some time, has been taking heroin, to block out the bad guys from interfering. He finally stops taking it this season and I couldn’t be happier because he’s finally himself again. I missed police officer Will so I’m really happy to see him become himself again and I think Riley is a huge part of that. I really like them two together. Seeing all these characters happy is such a joy to watch.
We’re introduced to new clusters and at first, I didn’t like it because I didn’t want there to be others out there but now I kind of like it. There is a scene where it’s this cluster against another one and it’s so cool to watch. You have like 16 people fighting against each other, it’s great. The fight scenes in this show when it cuts from character to character is so entertaining. It’s what I love about this show. It’s so unique. The editing of this show is what brings it to life. The fast cuts and the grading is sensational. I admire it so much and the show on a whole is inspirational.
The ending of season 2 definitely sets up a third season so it better return. I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters yet. I just hope it’s not another two years wait. The show needs to continue because it sends some really important messages and they need to be spread around the world.
With its diverse cast, social activism, astonishing cinematography from around the world and the editing, it is the best TV show to come out of Netflix. I might even go as far as to say it’s the best TV show ever created. I really mean that. Stop reading my blog and just go and watch it because it will change the way you see the world. It makes everything beautiful.
Crazy. Stunning. Beautiful. A must see!
