Requiem for a Dream

Plot: A mother and her son both become addicted to drugs after trying to chase their dreams.

Year: 2000

Director: Darren Aronofsky

Starring: Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly and Ellen Burstyn.

A film that depicts the importance of people’s dreams and how far people are willing to go to reach them. Dreams are dangerous, which is something the characters find out in this film. If you haven’t seen this film then you’re more than likely going to have heard of it.

The way the film was shot is something very unique. Check out the video below:

I loved the way it repeated certain close-ups over and over again. Like when the mother is trying to fit into her dress and each day she gets a little closer. The repeats of the drugs that were close-ups as well with the sounds were amazing.

I think it’s a very tragic story and it shows that dreams aren’t worth risking your life for and making yourself really ill. If you want to chase a dream then do it in good health and for all the right reasons.

This is a film that is filmmaking at its best. It is art and it’s engaging to watch. It’s definitely worth the experience. It’s very tragic and quite sad. It is very well put together and probably my favourite Darren Aronofsky films.

Rating: 7/10
