Plot: After an Army major, Susan Turner, is arrested on charges of treason, Jack Reacher works to clear her name. After Reacher is then suspected of murder, he must go on the run to uncover the truth about a conspiracy that involves the death of U.S. Soldiers.

Year: 2016

Director: Edward Zwick

Starring: Tom Cruise, Cobie Smulders, Danika Yarosh and Aldis Hodge.

When I watched the first film I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did and I’ve been excited for this sequel since it was announced. I’m so thankful it was just as good. I don’t think I could say whether the first one or second one is better. I think I like them both equally. If I had to compare, the only thing I’d say I prefer is the leading lady in the first film but that’s because I prefer the actress. Rosamund Pike played it in the first one and in this one, it was played by Cobie Smulders.

The storyline was very exciting. It’s a very predictable film but I didn’t care because I liked the characters and the story. There’s a lot of good, enjoyable action sequences. I like that they brought a bit of sexism into it with the two main characters. That’s always fun to watch because it’s always the same. Guy’s assuming females should stay at home while they go out and do all the fighting. I’m glad that Smulders’s character stood up for herself.

I really enjoyed the fact that they brought in a new character, someone who could change Reacher and it proved just what type of person he is. Which is a genuine good guy. They bring in a potential daughter for the character and if you’ve read the book then you know the outcome and I haven’t read the book. Throughout the film, the two have a good bond and similar traits so it feels like she might be his daughter. I really liked the character too. Anyway, at the end of the film, it was revealed that she wasn’t his daughter and I was kind of gutted. They had a good thing going and it was cute to watch.

The film hasn’t done too bad at the box office and there is still time for it to rake in more money. However, it’s got a while to go if it wants to surpass its predecessor and I’m not sure if it will accomplish that. It’s already been out quite a while. I do hope they do a third film because they’re really entertaining and the character, Jack Reacher, is one of my favourites. These films always make me want to read the books but there are 20 of them and that is a lot of effort. I’d need a months holiday somewhere to get through them all.

Rating: 7/10.
