There’s been so much hype surrounding this film for so long and it didn’t live up to it. That’s not to say it wasn’t a good film because it was good, just not as good as it should have been. It tried to be funny but it wasn’t. There were some comical moments but you just don’t find yourself laughing. The storyline was too weak and there was no huge climax. The fighting was kept to a minimun and wasn’t that explosive or exciting.
They had these great characters but didn’t get the most out of them. Harley Quinn and The Joker were the best part to this film. The most intriguing characters. However, what was the need to have The Joker in this film? He wasn’t part of the squad and didn’t have a huge significant part in the storyline. I get why they included him, he’s The Joker, the character is legendary but he just wasn’t necassary. I think Jared Leto did an amazing job and Margot Robbie was enduring and fascinating. I just want a film with Harley Quinn and The Joker. That is a film I would love.
As for the other characters, there was no need for all of them either. It felt like half of them were forgotten about. Jai Courtney is a great actor and he’s someone I’ve admired for a couple of years now but he was just in the background. The only characters in the suicide squad were Deadshot and Harley Quinn, the others felt lost and they didn’t have a major role. I don’t understand why they didn’t allow these other characters have a bigger role. It’s not like it’s impossible to have a lot of main characters in a film and not make full use of them, just look at The Avengers.
I’m not a fan of the director David Ayer, he’s very manipulative and actors have harmed themselves just to please him. That’s obviously they way he does things and I will admit he’s great at making films but I don’t like the way he goes about it.
The soundtrack was amazing. Movie soundtracks these days are so much better than they used to be. I like it when they bring back old songs and use them in current blockbusters, it’s kind of fresh. My favourite was when they played Spirit in the Sky, that was great and as a huge fan of Queen, it pleased me that they inclided them on the soundtrack. It makes it a lot more exciting when they use songs like this, sometimes it can add to the humour. I think Queen added to the darkness of the film as it did have a dark feel to it but that’s what I liked about it. You have all these villains so keep it as dark as possible. I would have liked a bit more naughty behavouir from the villains.
I did enjoy the film but I won’t be watching it again. Once is enough for me. It was good but that’s all I can say, I was hoping it was going to be amazing. I’ve never really been a fan of the DC films, I think I’ll stick to their TV shows. I will however, look out for the Harley Quinn film, if they make that. I do feel very dissappointed in this film, I had so much hope. The story was disappointing and the characters started off with a great prmise but fell flat as the film went on. It lacked character development. They’ve created a pathway for a lot more films in this universe but they started the characters out on a boring note. I guess it can only get better from here. Well, one can hope anyway.
The film hasn’t been getting good reviews. On rotten tomatoes it’s recieved 4.8/10 from critiques. None critiques seem to like it and the film has done really well on it’s opening weekend at the box office, surpasing it’s budget already. If you haven’t seen it then I hope I don’t put you off, if there’s one thing I’ve learnt from reading reviews before watching a film is that everyone has their own opinion and likes different things. Some people will absolutely love this film, unfortunatly for me, I’m not one of those people.
I found it sad that Superman was dead in this because he was my childhood hero. I didn’t watch Dawn of Justice because I hated Man of Steel and I dislike Batman so I didn’t know how that ended until now. Even though I don’t like Ben Affleck or Batman, it was cool that they added him into this as a little cameo. I loved that The Flash had a cameo as well
