Sisters Lily and Victoria disappear in the woods on the day their parents die. Their uncle Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend, Annabel (Jessica Chastain) go looking for them. It takes them 5 years until they find the girls, they take them in and try to take care of them only something stands in their way of giving the children normal healthy lives.
I went to see this film at the cinema and it was fantastic, very chilling and scary. The atmosphere to the film was perfect with what was happening on screen, it was quite creepy. I found it quite sad too, you just can’t help but feel sorry for Lucas and Annabel. You feel for the kids too but they don’t really know that there’s anything wrong.
I thought the performances from the whole cast was amazing. They were all very convincing and the two little girls were fantastic considering their ages. It’s a film that I look forward to watching again.
Mama is something that has cared for the girls and caries on caring for them when they move in with their uncle. Annabel doesn’t really want to be a mum to these girls but once she realises something isn’t right her maternal instincts kick in and she tries her best to keep the girls safe.
I was really excited to finally see Mama throughout the film because you don’t really see what she is you just see flashes of her but when you do it’s not disappointing. She was very creepy but I did feel a bit sorry for her because I don’t think she want’s to hurt anyone.
I have to talk about the ending because it was completely heartbreaking. Mama was trying to take the girls but Annabel kept fighting her. The oldest of the two sisters decided to stay with Annabel but the youngest one went with Mama and it was just so sad seeing them get split up and knowing they won’t see each other again.
I think this was a fantastic film with fantastic performances and it’s a film that keeps on surprising right until the end and you won’t be disappointed.
